Hack week 2 day 2

My weight this morning was 177lbs. Fasting BGL was 97mg/dL. My weight tracking software gave me another warning this morning.

I promise I will slow down when I reach my goal.

Monday hack start

I'll be doing the potato hack this week. I did good over the weekend and only added a half pound back on. I weighed 179 this morning. BGL was at 110 on rising. Yesterday I cooked up 5lb of potatoes with onions, celery, peppers, and garlic. I had it for breakfast this morning.

 The minced garlic I used.

The vegetables in a pot.

On the plate. I add some cholula hot sauce after the picture.

I had beans and rice the rest of the day with pickles and some sweet peppers.

My goal by Friday morning is 174lbs.

Saturday potato update

I was on the potato hack most of yesterday . Last night we had dinner at El Charro's. I had the Pollo Bravo, chips, guacamole, queso, and a couple of Michelob Ultras. This morning my weight was 180.5lbs. BGL was 81 this morning. I forgot to take pictures of my El Charro's meal, but here is pictures of the rest of my food.

Breakfast was boiled potatoes with ketchup and hot sauce. A small bowl of leftover sweet potatoes for dessert.

Cold boiled potatoes with ketchup.

These were good. Not too spicy.

I had some of these to add a little more spice to the meal.

This is the ketchup I've been using. It has sugar instead of High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS).
Sucrose and fructose are processed differently. Sucrose is about 50% fructose of course. Even though sucrose and fructose are both sugars they get handled differently during digestion and metabolism.

I bought this ketchup today. I like Heinz ketchup.

Potato updated

I have completed 4 days on the potato hack. Should we call it the potato cleanse? Would that make it more attractive? How about the potatoe, bean, and rice cleanse? I bet Dr. Oz would even put it on his show if we called it a cleanse. But I digress.
4 days of stuffing myself with potatoes, beans, and rice. And here is the results: Weight 178.5,

My weight tracking software is telling me to slow down. I might slow it down tonight at El Charro's with some fajitas.

Here's what I had to eat on Thursday 2/13/14:

Pinto beans and rice for breakfast. 2 cups of rice and a can of pinto beans.

Mid-morning meal of black beans and rice.
After noon meal from Reasor's. I can't say that I recommend these as far as taste goes, I didn't like the taste. But I was able to choke down the whole can.
Evening meal above 1 1/2 before bedtime. Baked sweet potato. Yum!

My morning BGL was 104. It was 97 an hour after my large breakfast of beans and rice. I took a couple more readings yesterday and then were all in the normal range. I'm not diabetic, I'm taking the BGL levels to show that most of what you read about glycemic index in the media it hyperbole.

I thought I should throw the supplements I take in case anyone was interested. I take a multivitamin and glucosamine daily. I sometimes take electrolyte and magnesium. And I take a probiotic a couple times a week.

Potato Hack Update

Here's my current measurements after 3 days on potato hack:

Weight   179.5
Bodyfat 13.2
waist      36
hips        37

Fasting BGL this morning 104.

Yesterday I broke the fast to finish up some leftovers in the fridge, so I expected my result to be a little low. Here's some of what I have been eating. I ate some Lay's Baked Potato Crisps as a test to see how my results would be using processed crap. One of the important aspects of the potato hack is keeping fat to almost nothing. The chips are baked but they still have a lot of fat. Shocking right? If you read the label you see that the original potato crisps get 12% fat. The Barbecue Potato Crisps are 22.5% fat by calorie. What the heck. So maybe in a pinch on the potato hack you could use the original, but I wouldn't recommend it if you want good results.

I added some beef broth to a baked potato, not impressed. I still had to add ketchup.
Lay's Baked Potato Crisp 22.5% fat.
Lay's Baked Potato Original 12% fat.
Rice and Beans almost no % fat.
Very tasty beans but are high in sodium. Cook up your own if you have time.

3 days in and 4 pounds down. 1.2% bodyfat down and 2 inches off both my waist and hips. Tomorrow will be even better because I'm sticking strictly with the rice and beans, no leftovers and no potato crisps.

4 day potato hack

    I started a 4 day potato hack yesterday 2/10/14.
2/10/14
Weight 183.5

I had hash browns cooked on a George Foreman grill for breakfast. They didn't come out very well. I layered them too thick and I was in a hurry. I ate these about 10:30am
The victims.
 Shredded in processor.
On the grill. Don't layer them this thick. Plan on it taking about an hour to cook at 425 degrees.
Blood Glucose Level (BGL) 85 at noon.

I had a can of these potatoes at 12:30pm.

BGL at 1pm was 89.

I had this huge baked potato from Jason's Deli at 4:20pm

Potato with ketchup and Cholula hot sauce.

BGL at 4:50pm was 107. One caveat here. I change meters between the morning and evening readings. I used a Contour in the morning, but I ran out of test strips. I went to walmart to get some more strips. They wanted $29 for 25 strips or some nonsense. I bought a Relion meter and 50 strips for $26. But the readings on the Relion are a lot higher than the Contour. Luckily I have another meter at home. I have a Nova Max Plus to use and compare reading with the Relion. The Relion meter is reading about 10 points more than the Nova Max.

So I felt great all day yesterday. I had lots of energy and felt light. I did have trouble falling to sleep. I wasn't tired. My pulse felt a little elevated but not by much, maybe 10 beats more than usual.

This morning 2/11/14, I weighed in at 181.5. That is 2lbs difference from yesterday. I feel great this morning. Pulse before rising was 61bpm. This is about 10 beats above my normal resting heart rate. BGL was 91 this morning.
